Verts

OVERVIEW
Verts is a young adult ministry rooted in the pillars of sainthood, knowledge, and community, dedicated to forming and accompanying individuals aged 18 to 35 in their pursuit of holiness. Inspired by St. Mary Magdalene, the patron saint of converts and reverts, Verts provides a welcoming space for both practicing Catholics and those being drawn back to the richness of the Church’s sacramental life.
MY ROLE
I led the creative direction and execution for the brand, including the logo design, visual identity, t-shirt design, brand avatar, and tabling materials (e.g., flyers, signage, tablecloth concepts).
THE CHALLENGE
Verts is a newly formed young adult ministry seeking to grow its presence and welcome both returning and new members to the Catholic faith. They needed a visual identity that would resonate with young adults—something modern and inviting, yet rooted in tradition and reflective of their patron, St. Mary Magdalen.
THE APPROACH
I began by researching St. Mary Magdalen, who is often referred to as “the Apostle to the Apostles” and the bearer of light during a time of spiritual darkness. This idea became the cornerstone of the Verts brand—emphasizing the ministry's role in bringing light, warmth, and welcome to others.
The logo mark combines a stylized “V” with a flame, symbolizing both the group’s name and their mission to carry the light of Christ to others, much like St. Mary Magdalen. The branding balances clean, modern aesthetics with subtle nods to sacred tradition. I studied sacred art through different eras to identify visual threads that could be incorporated subtly into the color palette and composition.
Throughout the design process, I collaborated closely with the team, refining the direction from a literal representation of St. Mary Magdalen to a more symbolic and timeless identity.
THE OUTCOME
The final brand identity is modern, welcoming, and mission-driven. It includes a logo, t-shirt designs, tabling materials, and a brand avatar. Since the branding launch, average weekly attendance has grown from 7 to 20+ members. The group has received enthusiastic feedback about the new look, and what began as an internal t-shirt design for leadership evolved into a successful fundraiser for general members.
